In 2023, Michigan passed a series of comprehensive firearm safety laws. These laws include an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO, or red-flag) law and a secure storage law, among others.

Extreme Risk Protection Orders
Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), also known as red flag orders, are a tool to prevent firearm violence, including suicides, homicides, mass shootings, and firearm assaults.
Secure Firearm Storage
Secure firearm storage involves storing firearms unloaded, separate from ammunition, and locked through a variety of methods.
Michigan’s Other Firearm Safety Laws
With the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO, or red-flag) and secure storage laws, Michigan passed an updated background check law and a domestic violence misdemeanor firearm possession ban.
